This Galaxy Slime Recipe may be my favorite slime recipe yet. It’s colorful, sparkly, and really eye-catching. If your kids love slime, this DIY galaxy slime is a must-try. You can buy galaxy slime pre-made, but making it at home is more fun and less expensive — and kids enjoy the whole process of creating their own shimmering space-themed slime.

Why kids will love this Galaxy Slime Recipe
- Beautiful, sparkly colors that mimic a galaxy
- Less expensive than store-bought slime
- Hands-on and fun to make together
This slime is not edible. Supervise children while making slime and remind them to wash hands after playing.
Ingredients to make galaxy slime:
1 airtight container
Two 5 oz bottles of clear Elmer’s glue
1 bottle of black glitter glue
For each colored slime you make:
½ cup water
½ teaspoon baking soda
1 tablespoon contact lens solution
Glitters and colors: pink glitter, purple glitter, gold glitter, teal glitter, purple food coloring, teal food coloring. Metallic star confetti and small bowls for mixing.
How to make Galaxy Slime without borax or liquid starch
Start by pouring the entire bottle of black glitter glue into a mixing bowl. Add ½ cup of water and stir until combined. Mix in ½ teaspoon of baking soda, then add 1 tablespoon of contact lens solution. The mixture will begin to come together immediately.

The mixture may be sticky at first — that’s normal. Stir and then knead the slime until it pulls away from the bowl and is no longer sticky. Set the black glitter slime aside.

Next, make the colored slimes. Pour a 5 oz bottle of clear glue into a bowl, add ½ cup water, and mix. Add a few drops of purple food coloring for purple slime and combine light purple and hot pink glitter. Stir in ½ teaspoon baking soda, then add 1 tablespoon contact solution. Knead until no longer sticky and set the purple slime aside.

Make the teal slime the same way: clear glue, ½ cup water, teal food coloring, teal and gold glitters, ½ teaspoon baking soda, and 1 tablespoon contact solution. Knead until ready.

You’ll now have three sparkly slimes: black glitter, purple, and teal. The final step is to combine them. Gently press and swirl portions of each color together to create a galaxy effect. Don’t overmix if you want to preserve distinct bands of color; a little kneading will blend the shimmers while maintaining streaks of color.

The finished slime looks mostly dark with a stunning iridescent sheen. Adding metallic star confetti on top or folding it into the slime enhances the galaxy appearance and makes it extra special.

Frequently asked questions
Store galaxy slime in an airtight container when not in use to keep it fresh and prevent drying. Containers large enough for play and storage work best.
Avoid overmixing when combining colors. Light swirling preserves the colorful streaks; heavy mixing will blend everything into a dark, sparkly color.
