Campfire Dessert Bags

The walking taco concept is simple: open a single-serving bag of chips, crush them slightly, top with your favorite taco fillings, and eat straight from the bag. No plate, no fuss. I love that idea, and it made me wonder—why not make a walking cookie bag instead? The result is a portable, indulgent dessert that’s perfect for camping, bonfires, and outdoor gatherings.

I’m a big fan of Goodie Girl Chocolate Chunk cookies, and their individual go-paks are a family favorite—gluten free and tasty enough that even non-gluten-free family members enjoy them. They’re the perfect base for a campfire dessert bag: convenient, single-serve, and delicious.

For a quick demonstration of how to assemble these, there’s a short video showing the process.

These dessert bags combine crushed cookies, roasted marshmallows, M&M’s, whipped cream, and chocolate sauce for a warm, gooey treat you can eat right from the bag.

Variations

There are endless ways to customize a campfire dessert bag. Roasted marshmallows are a classic and highly recommended, but try other variations depending on the cookies and toppings you have. For example, a “Dirt Bag” made with Midnight Brownie Cookies and gummy worms creates a fun dirt-cup–style dessert that kids love. Use different cookie flavors, candy toppings, sauces, and even small scoops of ice cream for a cooler option.

DIY campfire dessert bags are great for groups, parties, and camping trips because each person can build their own creation. The combinations are limitless—mix cookies with marshmallows and chocolate for a s’mores-style bag, or go fruity with fresh berries and a dollop of whipped cream. If you haven’t tried Goodie Girl Go Packs, they come in convenient single-serve portions and are also suitable for gluten-free and peanut-free diets.
