Equipment

  • 1 large pot or pan

Ingredients

  • 1
    pound
extra-lean ground beef or lean turkey
    (93%)

  • cups
    onions,
    chopped
  • 1
    package
    Lawry’s Chili Mix or McCormick’s
  • 1
    (15 oz) can
    diced tomatoes,
    not drained
  • 2
    (15 oz each) cans
    beans,
drained, rinsed (1 can kidney and 1 can black beans recommended)
  • ½
    cup
    water

Instructions

  • In a large pot or pan, cook the ground beef or turkey with the chopped onions over medium-high heat until the meat is browned, about 7 minutes. Crumble the meat as it cooks and stir frequently. Drain any excess fat and return the meat to the pan.
  • Add the chili mix, the undrained diced tomatoes, the drained and rinsed beans, and the water to the browned meat. Stir well to combine, bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat and simmer for about 15 minutes, stirring occasionally so nothing sticks.
  • This chili freezes and reheats well. Cool completely before freezing in portions for quick meals later.
