Juicy Grilled Turkey Burgers with Flavorful Toppings

All turkey burgers are not the same. These are moist, quick, and easy, with a distinctive flavor from ricotta, Worcestershire, and Dijon. I love grilling year-round, and summer brings a special feeling to cooking outdoors. Living in Southern California means almost any day is a good day to grill, which we take full advantage of. Grilling makes dinner feel like more of a treat than a chore — and I don’t miss wiping down a stovetop afterward. We usually grill a lot of chicken and steak, but I was determined to find a great turkey burger. After trying many versions, I finally found one the whole family enjoyed. These turkey burgers are moist, flavorful, and quick to prepare. You simply combine a few ingredients with the turkey, mix, shape into patties, and grill. Perfect for busy weeknights.

Recipe notes: Turkey burgers are more delicate than beef burgers, so a few tips help them turn out well. Oil the grill grates to reduce sticking — turkey has less fat than beef so it tends to cling to the grill. While sticking is a minor annoyance, the flavor, texture, and moisture of these patties make it worthwhile.

Avoid pressing the patties with a spatula while they cook. Pressing squeezes out juices and will dry them out. Also, don’t move the patties around on the grill; flip them only once for the best sear and even cooking.

If you want a moist, tender, and well-flavored turkey burger, this recipe is worth trying.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 Cup Whole Milk Ricotta
  • 2 Teaspoons Worcestershire Sauce
  • 2 Teaspoons Dijon Mustard
  • 1/2 Teaspoon Salt
  • 1/4 Teaspoon Black Pepper
  • 20 Ounce Package Ground Turkey

Instructions

  • In a large bowl, mix the ricotta, Worcestershire, Dijon, salt, and black pepper until combined. Add the ground turkey and mix gently but thoroughly until the mixture is even. Divide into four equal portions and form patties about 1 inch thick.
  • Preheat a clean gas grill by turning all burners to high and closing the lid for 15 minutes. Oil the grates. Place the patties on the preheated grill with burners on high and cook about 5 minutes, until well seared on the first side and partially cooked through. Flip the patties, reduce heat to medium, cover, and cook another 5–7 minutes until the second side is seared and the patties are cooked through. Transfer to a clean plate, loosely tent with foil, and let rest for 5 minutes before serving.
